Director, Brand Management, Content & Commerce Marketing

Further enriching the ecosystem is the work of the nonprofit ANA Educational Foundation (AEF), which has the mission of enhancing the understanding of advertising and marketing within the academic and marketing communities.

Position Summary

This position is responsible the following subject matter areas: Brand Management, Brand Purpose, Commerce Marketing, and Content Marketing.

Reports to the SVP, Brand Activation.

This includes programming two national industry conferences, multiple 1-Day Conferences, and multiple Committee meetings.

In addition, this position is expected to develop and lead Thought Leadership initiatives across these areas, and drive growth of the ANA’s most successful award program, the REGGIE Awards.

Works with all ANA departments and various staff members and stays current on industry trends.

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible for various aspects of two annual national conferences
– Brand Masters and Brand Activation & Creativity, including:
Along with SVP, Brand Activation, lead content development, identify, recruit and manage relationships with relevant speakers Manage marketing communications plan with Marcomm to include key elements (emails, online, brochure, social media, P.R., etc.) Execute marketing communications plan, including developing copy, directing creative development and production.

Reach past and current attendees, and develop segmentation strategies to add to target audience

Responsible for all aspects of certain 1-Day Conferences (approximately 2-4 annually), including:
When in-person, identify potential ANA members and convince them to host in appropriate markets Along with SVP, Brand Activation, lead content development, identify, recruit and manage relationships with relevant speakers When in person, travel to meetings and serve as host, introduce speakers, and lead Q&A with each

Responsible for all aspects of multiple ANA Committees
– Content Marketing Committee (2 locations
– NY and West Coast), Commerce Marketing Committee (2 locations
– NY and Southwest), Brand Management Committee (2 locations
– NY and West Coast) and Brand Purpose Committee (1 location
– NY).

In 2022 each committee/location has quarterly meetings HQ if in NY or hosted by a member in other markets, as well as select virtual meetings.

Note all meetings are virtual in 2021.

Also note Brand Purpose Committee is co-managed by Center for Brand Purpose.

Responsibilities include:
Continually grow and recruit Committees membership Develop relevant and exciting agendas for quarterly meetings.

Research topics and recruit speakers.

Work with co-chairs and other resources as needed When in-person, travel to meetings and serve as host, introduce speakers, and lead Q&A with each Develop relationship and work with Committee co-chairs to advance Committee topics and thought leadership initiatives Oversee Manager who is responsible for all Committee Meeting Logistics (ANA team is not responsible)
– pre, during and post event Work with Manager to execute Committee-targeted marketing communications plan, including developing copy, and deploying email communications to Committee members

For national conferences, 1-Day conferences, and Committee meetings the following all apply:
Grow meeting attendance and continually improve quality scores Coordinate Logistics with ANA Event team (who is responsible for all Logistics for national and 1-Day conferences).

Our team handles logistics for Committee meetings.

Manage budgets, communicate with SVP, Brand Activation.

Analyze results for future marketing initiatives Support Sponsorship teams’ needs coordinating speaking benefits aligned with our meetings (though they are solely responsible for Sponsorship Sales and logistics)

Develop and advance Thought Leadership initiatives in Brand Management, Content Marketing and Commerce Marketing areas, including but not limited to research, white papers, and blog posts.

Manage and grow the new (2021) Content Marketing Advisory Board
Schedule and run bi-monthly meetings Work with Board to advance key outputs and thought leadership initiatives Keep Board membership fresh by bringing in new participants in different industries

Responsible to contribute to the team handling the REGGIE Awards, recognizing the best Brand Activation campaigns of the year.

This is a well-functioning team that includes the SVP, Brand Activation, the VP, Awards, and two Managers who manage the day-to-day requirements of the REGGIE Awards as well as their other responsibilities (Committee’s execution, other event support and other Award programs).

Responsibilities include:
Helping to maximize entry volume and revenue Participating in judging process Helping to develop and manage the annual Gala celebration of winners

Other responsibilities include:
Manage appropriate website content in areas of responsibility to be sure it is up-to-date Provide reports to SVP, Brand Activation as required, especially for monthly reports to Sr.

Management Attend appropriate national Conferences, One-Day Conferences, Committee Meetings and travel as required Assist other members of Brand Activation team when needed Participate in annual Planning process (June
– August) including preparing Lessons Learned and Future Plans in these areas

Qualifications:

This is a lean team with an aggressive agenda, multiple member segments and needs, multiple requests and due dates.

A successful candidate needs to be comfortable in a small business environment which requires hands-on management, flexibility, and service-oriented thinking.

At the same time, the candidate needs to be comfortable in a matrixed structure, working with the parent organization and volunteer groups.

This candidate should have an entrepreneurial spirit, and always seek innovative and low-cost ways to deliver the goals.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in business or marketing required.

While not required, an MBA or advanced degree is a plus Should have 10+ years of business experience, with preference for experience at a marketing organization or an agency Must be passionate about and understand consumer marketing and have knowledge of classical marketing strategies and tactics.

Preference for understanding brand building Must have leadership skills to motivate numerous constituencies Must have knowledge and experience in Brand Management, Content Marketing and Commerce Marketing areas, though not only limited to these areas Should possess excellent communication and writing skills Detailed and organized.

Able to multi-task and meet multiple objectives Good team player
