Recreation Assistant (Water Safety Instructor) NF-02

This is a Full-time position in West Point, NY posted July 17, 2021.

Summary The Area of Consideration for this vacancy announcement is for Citizens and Non-Citizens residing within a 50 mile radius of West Point, NY.

(Military Spouse Preference (MSP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) eligible candidates are included in the area of consideration.) This position is located with West Point Recreational Swim.

Responsibilities Acting as a water safety instructor, manages all swimming lessons and instructs when scheduled, at the assigned aquatics facility.

Develops swim program according to students’ ability and promotes students to higher level of swimming according to their skills.

Instructs all levels of swimming and appropriate strokes, to include: front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, and butterfly.

Teaches students from age groups of infant to adult.

Introduces and instructs safety and survival skills to students, when appropriate to the level of instruction.

Instructors work with lifeguards to ensure that swim lessons are safe at all times.

Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications 1.

Work experience related to the duties described above to include: managing swim lessons; developing swim programs; introducing and instructing safety and survival skills.2.

Possession of the following certifications (Certificates issued by the American Red Cross, Ellis @ Associates, Star Guard, or other nationally recognized agencies are acceptable): Water Safety Instructor Certification Cardio-Pulminary (CPR) Certification First Aid Certification The experience and certifications must be reflected on your resume and certifications must be uploaded at the time of application to be considered eligible for this position.

Highly Preferred: Possession of a Lifeguard Certification.

This certificate must be reflected on your resume and uploaded at the time of application to be considered a Highly Preferred candidate.

Applicants meeting the Highly Preferred criteria will be referred first to the Selecting Official.

All other applicants will be referred for consideration if the certificate (referral list) is returned with no selection.
