The Opportunity The Head of Product and Underwriting
– Digital will be responsible for the leadership and management of all product development within Digital Underwriting.

This position is ideal for a technical and hands-on insurance professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, entrepreneurial and innovative environment.

This role will look to implement a differentiated approach to portfolio based underwriting.

A stream-lined mindset that seeks to minimize underwriting questions where possible thru the use of external data, internal data, as well as appetite.

This role is a key member of the operations and technology leadership team and reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

A key success factor for this role will also be responsible for developing strong relationships with internal underwriting, financial and distribution teams.

Major responsibilities include:* Product Head and Lead Underwriter for MRSI’s Digital Underwriting – a portfolio-based, automated approach for micro and small exposures.

“If it fits, it binds”* Develop a scaleable platform to service the opportunity at the center of wholesaler consolidation and the evolution of binding authority* Demonstrate a “customer-obsessed” mindset as you re-think and simplify the underwriting process.

Leverage internal and external data to reduce complexity while maintaining underwriting discipline* Drive an intuitive user experience that is digitized, repeatable and flexible for future unknowns* Close collaboration with various functional teams across the organization including, actuarial, corporate underwriting, technology, business intelligence, marketing, legal, operating and distribution* “Own” profitability and manage it through a portfolio-based underwriting approach* Drive the construction of product form exposure questions to product design to forms, rules and rates to filings (if applicable) in collaboration with our Corporate Underwriting teams* Develop targeted industries, classes and lines of business.

Have and maintain awareness of market trends in key areas* Operate in a client-facing capacity with our key distribution partners* Think outside-of-the-box with regard to the “problem” clients and customers need to solve and fill that void with appropriate product and services* Manage a small, but impactful team of underwriters * Munich Re Specialty Insurance / MRSI is a description for the insurance business operations of affiliated insurers, producers, and related service providers of the Munich Re (Group) that share a common mission, management, operating platform, and vision to offer specialty property and casualty products and services in Canada and the United States.

The products and services are to be delivered by and in the name of AAIC, PESLIC, BIC, Temple, and B&C.

Qualifications Successful Candidates Will Be Possess The Following Skills/capabilities:* 10+ years P&C insurance experience required* A diverse, multi-line background that includes portfolio steering of high-volume, low-complexity business* ‘Front-line’ product development experience including rating, form development, procedures, regulations, coverage and process – experience in sheparding product from birth to delivery and coordinating with all relevant internal teams: corporate underwriting, actuarial, forms, etc* Experience as part of a team that translated underwriting requirements into functional and technology blueprints* Ability to think strategically, yet act tactically* Strong business and financial acumen, as well as executive leadership presence* Strong influencing skills to ensure alignment with the internal stakeholders on value proposition to the customer, client and partner.* Detail oriented and able to make independent decisions* Awareness of relevant regulatory issues and trends* Strong capabilities in competitor and market analysis At Munich Re US, we see Diversity and Inclusion as a solution to the challenges and opportunities all around us.
