Optical Coating Technician

This is a Contract position in Hopewell Junction, NY posted July 21, 2021.

Nesco Resource is looking for an entry level Optical Production Technician in Hopewell Junction, NY. This position is a temp to hire position for the right candidate. This position is for 1st shift from 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM with possible OT. Hourly pay is $17.00-$19.00/hour depending on experience. Will train the right candidate for this role.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Commits to providing customers with outstanding product quality, service and value with the expectations of achieving brand loyalty.
  • Completes daily/weekly production efforts for full range of product offerings in work area.
  • Assists manufacturing efforts for prototype design.
  • Assists manager in the development and commercialization of new products.
  • Assists manager in the development and support of a comprehensive program that governs product, processes and systems within their department.
  • Proactively communicates with work cell personnel and department leads to support and ensure product meets the customer’s quality, service and value expectations.
  • Assists manager in the establishment of mechanical and optical product specifications and then uses inspection tools and inspection methodologies to verify work performed.
  • Supports the maintenance of equipment, tools and systems at a level that will sustain product and production that will meet or exceed customer quality, service and value expectations.
  • Assists manager in developing processes, engineering drawings, travelers or special instructions.
  • Preserves the quality of assigned material and product.
  • Assists department to minimize process, product and equipment variation.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of product, equipment, tools, supplies, inventory points, work areas or workstations within their cell.
  • Completes all process/product related documentation as it relates to the work performed.
  • Teams with area manager and engineering to effectively and efficiently transfer new product or processes from R&D to manufacturing.
  • Identify tooling and equipment needs and suggest recommendations for their purchase or modification.
  • Teams with manager and engineering to integrate new or modified equipment, tooling, process, procedures, SOP’s, safety requirements and help provide necessary training.
  • Helps to develop all process/product related documentation as it relates to the work performed.
  • Reports in detail to immediate manager progress towards individual assignments and projects. Also, reports progress toward department, individual goals and any departmental issues.


  • Performs and completes tasks as assigned by immediate supervisor or manager in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provides support to other departments as required in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support company values and work ethics.
  • Continually develops skills by learning systems, processes and procedures.
  • Mentors other manufacturing employees as needed.
  • Provides support as needed towards Kiazen events, root cause analysis, preventative action, customer returns, non-conformance and other quality events.
  • Performs quarterly and annual reviews of department technicians
  • Works and communicates openly with all company employees in order to maintain and continually improve the quality, the delivery and the costs of manufactured product.
  • Suggest possible manufacturing changes that would improve product quality, service or value.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and enforces all safety protocols.
  • Reports to immediate manager all security breaches.
  • Reports to immediate manager any observed employee accidents or person injury.

Position Requirements:
Education/Training: Required: None
Preferred: A technical Associate Degree.
Experience: Preferred but not required. 
Knowledge/Skills: Basic math skills.
Skilled in the use of inspection tools and inspection equipment.
Previous machine operator or optical manufacturing experience a plus.
Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • All work is to be performed per lean manufacturing and six-sigma concepts with emphasis on teamwork and ‘Total Quality’ concepts.
  • All documentation shall be accurate and current, and recorded on appropriate company forms
  • Performs work within the guidelines of governmental laws.
  • Must be able to lift 20 to 50 pounds.
  • Must have good vision
  • Employee will work within the guidelines of the latest revisions of company’s health, safety, environmental, quality and security policies.
