Patient Care Coordinator – Dermatologist (Spring Street)

PATIENT CARE COORDINATOR

The Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) is responsible for providing exemplary customer service to all outgoing patients. He/she answers any questions regarding the appointment, discusses treatment costs and payment options with patients, schedules follow-up appointments and collects co-payments, if any. The person in this position is also responsible for coordinating with the rest of the team to provide a timely turnaround for the patient.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Duties may include, but not limited to all or some of the following
  • Providing exceptional patient care in accordance with the position.
  • Assisting patients with pre-care and post-care questions.
  • Fulfilling patient care responsibilities as assigned.
  • Fulfilling clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab results, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Completing forms and requisitions as needed, managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately. These responsibilities may be carried out using the electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually as necessary.
  • Maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complies with legal regulations.
  • Complying with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infections body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation and other hazardous substances.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms).
  • Scheduling surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms as necessary.
  • Performing and maintaining appointment scheduling. Adjusting and confirming patient appointments.
  • May perform registration of patients as well as update patient demographic and insurance information.
  • May check and verify & update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources.
  • May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary.
  • Providing patients with guidance regarding treatment costs and payment options.
  • Performing prior authorizations for procedures and medications within established guidelines.
  • May handle cash and collect payments accurately and responsibly.
  • Scanning, updating and filing medical records.
  • Providing outstanding customer service to every patient.
  • Informing practice manager or assistant practice manager of patient flow, etc.
  • Assisting other practice team members as needed.
  • Helping maintain a courteous and professional working environment.
  • Attending all in-house training and continued education opportunities.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by Managers and/or Providers.

Qualifications/Experience/Education

  • A High School Degree or GED.
  • Positive, welcoming, and can-do attitude with patients and other practice team members.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a physician office. Dermatology experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and a team player.
  • Computer Proficiency and superior keyboarding skills (approximately 55 wpm).
  • Flexible/adaptable nature to work in a fast paced and continuously evolving environment.
  • Passion for helping others in a healthcare environment.
  • Ability to effectively interact with providers, patients and other staff members.

Additional Information

This position will require long shifts, weekend (will depend on schedule necessary at facility), closing, and opening shifts. Must work on-site.

Ability to sit and stand for periods of time. Heavy computer use required. This role may require from time to time lifting heavy objects on a regular basis, doing repetitive tasks with few breaks, and requiring light cleaning.
