Associate Director of Diversity, Equity & Belonging

Elizabethtown College

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Belonging has an opportunity for a full-time Associate Director of Diversity, Equity and Belonging to join their department.

The primary functions of this position are to vision and implement intercultural programming, provide educational training, and mentor and support students with underrepresented and marginalized identities.

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging supports students with historically marginalized identities, educates the community about and celebrates identity, and addresses structural inequity.

Working with students, faculty, staff and the greater community, this area promotes a culture prioritizing individual worth and interconnectedness. Our mission is realized through a number of events and activities exploring topics including but not limited to race/ethnicity, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic status, ability status, national origin and religion.

Essential Functions:

  • Vision, implement and promote intercultural programming on campus throughout the year.
  • Publish annual calendar of events online and posted throughout campus.
  • Supervising the student assistants in the office.
  • Advise the intercultural board that represents all student groups that have a focus of supporting underrepresented students and meet bi-weekly with them.
  • Provide support, mentorship, advocacy and leadership development for underrepresented students.
  • Coordinate Ubuntu Peer Mentorship Program for first year students.
  • Facilitate visibility for, participation in, and recognition for cultural affinity groups
  • Hold set office hours in the BSC and in the Mosaic House to serve as a resource for underrepresented students to ensure they have support from the office.
  • Oversee the Mosaic House and create a welcoming space for underrepresented students.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff and student partners by serving on the Campus Inclusion Committee.
  • Engage in regular assessment of goals and objectives.
  • Establish effective connections with appropriate external agencies and other resource groups including diverse alumni constituents, parents, and community organizations.
  • Facilitate large-scale college service projects, presentations, and community partner training and appreciation activities related to diversity and inclusion. 
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with the Dean of Students, including but not limited to bi-weekly direct reports meetings.
  • Serve as a member of the Leadership-On-Call rotation

Required Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience

  • Master’s degree required plus 2-4 years experience in higher education, or equal combination of education and experience
  • 2-4 years’ experience in intercultural programming and mentoring
  • Microsoft Office Suite knowledge & experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous college/university experience working with diverse and underrepresented students is highly desirable
  • Experience in diversity, equity and inclusion and Title IX, Clery and VAWA, preferably at a small liberal arts college highly desirable.
  • Title IX training/certification
  • Previous supervisory experience
